Horse Expo 2006 was another great success!

Horse Expo 2006 was another success - despite dreadful weather leading up to the event and very wet conditions underfoot. Some last minute modifications were made to the timetable and grounds layout, and a few displays were cancelled, mainly for safety reasons.

The organisers wish to say a big thankyou to all the trade people, clubs and other organisations - and of course the public who came to watch and learn - for continuing to support Horse Expo, especially considering the less-then-ideal conditions.

While crowd numbers were down about 25 percent on last year, those who came thoroughly enjoyed the spectacle - especially the two exciting performances by The Company of the Lance jousting group.

Other highlights for many at the Ancare-sponsored event included tricks performed by two of the Narnia horses, courtesy of Tasman Rides, the all-day horse-starting demonstration by Paul Renwick of HorseSense, the two roping demonstrations by the Warkworth Roping & Barrel Racing Club, and a very nice four-horse demonstration by Horse Expo's nominated charity, Riding for the Disabled.

The breeds parade, held in an arena this year, featured everything from miniature, Welsh and Icelandic horses to Trakehner, Haflinger and Andalusian breeds. International judge Kevin Cholmondeley-Smith provided background information on each breed.

Two demonstrations of Foundation Horsemanship by Chip Johnson of Kiwi Savvy - a regular at previous Horse Expos - were very well received.

Congratulations to Jill Rennie of Silverdale who won the gate prize of a two-day Partnership Riding Clinic with Kiwi Savvy, worth $300, plus a spectator pass worth $40.

As with last year, the ‘Demonstration Corner’ provided a range of practical information for interested audiences, with experts in equine health and management demonstrating topics such as barefoot trimming, basic equestrian first aid, Bowen therapy and saddle fitting.

Despite the weather, all trade exhibitors turned up and were very happy with the day. Because of the wet conditions, many were housed indoors in the main Show pavilion for the first time this year.

Some of the proceeds from Horse Expo 2006 will go to Riding for the Disabled - they have received $2500 from the previous two events.
